TOPIC: God Is Love part 4
Text: 1 John 4: 16
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. GOD IS LOVE, and he who abides in love abides in God and God in him.
God is love personified. Therefore the love that God has for us is Himself. When we say that God loves us, we are saying that God has Himself for us.
With this light, we can now understand John 3 : 16 better.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3 : 16)
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God is God. When God gave His only begotten Son, He was actually giving Himself to us.
Therefore, we can paraphrase this verse as follows:
For God so loves the world that He gave Himself...
God loves us so much that He gave Himself for us, while we were yet sinners. What manner of love is this?
This is truly reckless love.
Since God has given Himself for us, what will He ever deny us in this life? This is the question that the Spirit of God is asking us daily.
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (Rom 8 : 32)
God did not spare His own Son but delivered Him for us. Not only that, but in giving to us, God did not spare Himself. He gave Himself for us.
So we are fully assured that in giving to us God will not spare anything or anyone.
His love for us is limitless, extravagant, and extreme.
No wonder John exclaims :
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,....(1 John 3 : 1)
